FOP research appears poised to achieve significant breakthroughs in the very near future. Recent data from numerous experiments in the areas of linkage analysis, DNA expression, and physiologic animal models, as well as direct patient observation has suggested the importance of several genes both inside and outside of the previously identified possible linkage region.
